Drafting a Pattern or Design Consultation

  • Customers can provide an inspiration image of the desired garment prior to arranging a consultation appointment.
  • An estimate may be provided initially to progress the project, prior to finalising design elements and challenges. Please note that this will be an estimate and be subject to change based on design choices and further information gathered.
  • The Linen Duck can supply fabric and notions, though customers may source and supply their own fabric. Appropriate options are included in the quoting process and can be sourced at the customer’s expense including all postage costs.
  • Advice will be given regarding the type and quantity of fabric required.
  • Please note there is a rush fee for designs which have a short timeline (less than 8 weeks for most garments) and this will be discussed at the consultation stage. Please note the timeline as early as possible in your communication to assist with planning.

Fabric Selection

The choice of fabric for Made to Measure, Design Consultation and Drafting a Pattern has a major impact on the final look, fit, and quality of the garment.

  • Customers are encouraged to select good-quality, appropriate fabric for their chosen design.
  • Please be aware that inexpensive or unsuitable fabrics may not achieve the desired look or fit. The Linen Duck cannot be held responsible for dissatisfaction caused by customer-supplied fabrics that are of inadequate quality or inappropriate for the chosen design, though the customer will be advised of this at the initial consultation.

Remnants & Fabric Offcuts

  • Fabric remnants, offcuts, or excess material generated during alterations or the creation of custom garments will be disposed of by default, unless the customer specifically requests their return at the time of the first fitting or consultation.
  • The Linen Duck does not store leftover materials beyond job completion unless pre-arranged.

Fittings for Custom Garments

  • One fitting is included in the custom garment service to fine-tune the garment.
  • Additional fittings or design changes requested by the customer (e.g., adding pockets, changing styles) may incur additional fees and adjustment to the initial quote.
  • Customers will be advised of any extra charges prior to proceeding.

6.       Formalwear Alterations – Scope, Acceptance & No Guarantee Policy

Professional Assessment & Acceptance of Work

All alteration requests are subject to professional assessment. The Linen Duck reserves the right to decline any alteration request where, in the proprietor’s professional judgement, the desired outcome cannot be realistically achieved to an acceptable standard within the limitations of the garment.

Design & Structural Limitations

Alterations are performed within the existing design, construction, and structural integrity of the garment. Requests that require fundamental redesign, reconstruction, or re-engineering of a garment (including but not limited to bodice restructuring, major silhouette changes, or altering the intended fit beyond the original design) are not considered standard alterations and may be declined.

No Guarantee of Outcome

While all services are provided with due care, skill, and professional expertise, The Linen Duck does not guarantee a specific aesthetic outcome or subjective satisfaction where the result is dependent on garment design, fabric behaviour, body proportions, or limitations beyond reasonable control. Minor imperfections are inherent in alteration work and do not constitute a fault.

Expectation Management & Risk of Dissatisfaction

Where expectations are assessed as unrealistic, or where there is a high likelihood that the finished garment would not meet the customer’s expectations despite reasonable skill and care, The Linen Duck may decline to proceed. This decision is made to protect the customer from disappointment and the business from undertaking work that cannot be responsibly guaranteed.

7.      Zippers and Notions Supply & Responsibility

The Linen Duck does not manufacture or sell zippers and other notions but may supply a good-quality zipper as part of a zipper replacement service. While care is taken to source reputable zippers, The Linen Duck is not liable for product failure, damage, or malfunction caused by the zipper itself.

Zippers can sometimes fail unexpectedly, even after limited use or wear. Despite quality selection, many zippers are inherently delicate and can break or separate under pressure or improper use. The Linen Duck is not responsible for zipper failure due to manufacturing defects, fabric strain, laundering, or user handling.

Responsibility for any failure lies with the zipper manufacturer unless the cause is due to poor installation. The Linen Duck remains responsible only if the stitching or sewing workmanship of the zipper installation is shown to be faulty.

Customers are encouraged to take care when using and laundering garments with zippers, as excessive strain or heat can shorten the life of even high-quality products.

Other Notions

The above conditions also apply to other manufactured notions used in garments, such as buttons, buckles, elastic, Velcro, and embellishments. These items, although sourced for quality, can sometimes fail due to production flaws or wear-related stress.

The Linen Duck cannot be held liable for failure or damage caused by these components unless the issue is directly related to the method of installation or sewing technique.

8.       The Legal stuff

Australian Consumer Law Compliance

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to exclude, restrict, or modify any consumer guarantees provided under the Australian Consumer Law. The Linen Duck provides services with due care and skill, and any remedies available under the ACL remain applicable where a failure to meet those guarantees is established.

Customer Acknowledgement

By engaging The Linen Duck, customers acknowledge that:

  • Not all garments are suitable for alteration to every desired outcome.
  • Alterations may improve fit but cannot change the fundamental design of a garment.
  • Professional advice provided during consultation is given honestly and in good faith.

Disclaimer

All alterations are subject to garment suitability. Outcomes cannot be guaranteed where expectations exceed the limitations of the garment.
